Pre-stretched film

Hand stretch film is produced using the film extrusion process. Whether blown or cast film is to be used is only decided towards the end of the manufacturing process, as both extruders and aggregates are similar for both end products. Whether blown or cast film extrusion is used depends on the nozzle through which the molten plastic leaves the extruder. There are also differences in the downstream units that the film is subsequently processed with.

In blown film extrusion, the molten plastic exits a ring nozzle in the form of a closed film tube, which is then led to the ceiling. In the next step, the tube is inflated with cooling air. This process achieves the biaxial orientation of the film. As mentioned above, the cast film extrusion process works in a slightly different way. This is because the plastic melt exits from a wide-slit nozzle instead of from a round one. The melt is discharged horizontally, fed directly over a chill roll and then further processed. The film is monoaxially oriented between the nozzle and the roll.

Where should pre-stretched stretch film be implemented?

In principle, pre-stretched stretch film can be used wherever normal wrapping film is also used. It is easier to process because it has already been pre-stretched. The roll is also much lighter, which makes it easier to handle as well. Some of the main advantages are therefore independent from the packages or the pallet. The pre-stretched wrapping film is particularly recommended for particularly light packages or on pallets with many smaller packages, as it has a higher back-stretch. It can therefore shrink a little and gives the pallet greater overall stability due to the better fixing of individual pieces. It is particularly advisable to use pre-stretched wrapping film for pallets with particularly expensive or many smaller packages to give the goods additional protection.

The safe solution for sensitive goods

The benefits described above are particularly advantageous when wrapping sensitive goods and goods where special care is required to avoid damage. With the help of pre-stretched film, a stable bond of the individual packages can be ensured on the pallet. One of the reasons for this is that pre-stretched film does not shrink again in width once it has been unwound. This feature allows more efficient and careful work and reduces the demand for film. The yield of pre-stretched film is four times higher than that of normal film. At the same time, it makes manual wrapping easier, as the individual rolls are lighter.
